2. a pledge

loki was no fool. he knew when something wasn’t going right or his way and he felt it this time in the blowing wind. so, a monster top-gun meeting was called for. doppel attended it against maya’s advice. there, loki once again preached that a war between humans and monsters was a must.

“they have taken our resources; they have plotted against us; and they wanted to destroy us. we must not tolerate it! and war is eminent!”

even though after being told by maya to not say a word, doppel could not take it anymore, so he cried out, “humans and monsters are not enemies! loki is our enemy!”

“what do you mean boy?’ asked dark illusion, a bit shocked.

“exactly what i said!”

they argued a little more. finally doppel said, “if you hate humans so much, if you want to kill them, you have to start with me!” with that, he pulled the horns out of his head, sending blood gushing everywhere. “for i am a human!”

there were many gasps. finally dark illusion said, “all right, you shall die first---human or not.”

“no, please allow me,” said zeolotus, a slender girl ghost with a head of silver locks cascading down her shoulders came forward, with whom doppel fought. soon, zeolotus had the upper hand---no one could fight and win zeolotus since she trained many of them, she trained doppel, too, and she was by far the most skillful and talented. she tangled her whip like a snake around dopple’s right arm and threw him out the window, but, when dopple’s face was close to hers, she whispered so only he could hear: “hurry and find that merchant of yours!”

when doppel was thrown out of the window, zeolotus let go of the whip so it was caught on the edge of the cliff, and since dopple’s hand was strapped to it, he lived.

of course no one else saw this.

“out the window?” said dark illusion incredulously. “you’re sure that kid is dead?”

“want me to throw you and see if you live?’

“uh……no thanks.” dark illusion turned and thought for a moment. “well, i guess the meeting is adjourned.” with that, the monsters got up and soon left. when zeolotus was about to leave, moonie stopped her and yelled.

“don’t you yell! you should save your energy for pulling him up!” said zeolotus, winking an eye.

hearing that, moonie ran to the broken window and, seeing doppel dangling dangerously, pulled him up with all her strength. right after she did so, she slapped doppel and said, “don’t you ever do something like that stupid again!”

moonie said this while hiding her expression from the others.

later that day, doppel and moonie left cave town and went to look for quiritus and the others. later, after they joined up with quiritus and the others, doppel told the others of his true race.

it was a shock to all---some of them did not believe him.
